(Yom) Kippur (the Day of Atonement)
כִּפּוּר
Kippur begins on the evening of the 9th day of the month Tishri and lasts until the evening of the 10th day.
On this day we pray in the kenasa (synagogue) prayers for the forgiveness of sins, we also repent for our sins. We do penitence and we promise that in the future we will not sin.
Kippur is also known as the Saturday of Saturdays - שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּתוֹן Shabbat Shabbaton; all work is forbidden during this day.
